Oak By Design was honoured to take part in the Freidreich’s Ataxia Charity’s ‘Big Bad Bike Ride’ (BBBR) and Evening Dinner at the National Railway Museum in September this year. Photos are available here
Oak By Design’s Jamie Winspear took part in this annual event, cycling the 112km route around the hills of Yorkshire in aid of Fredreich’s Ataxia.
Graham Kennedy, who heads the organisation of the Ataxia bike ride, asked Jamie if he would like to take part in the bike ride this year. He went on to say how this year would be the year where the BBBR would surpass the £1 Million funds raised barrier. More information on Ataxia here.
Jamie felt that this achievement by Graham Kennedy deserved recognition.
In 2014, Yorkshire hosted Le Grand Depart for Le Tour de France, and Oak by Design built an Oak Bike to show off their high quality skills! The bike received much admiration from customers and visitors to Harrogate alike.
After speaking with Richard Penny at Oak By Design, both Jamie and Richard felt the ‘Oak Bike’ would be a worthy gift to Graham Kennedy in recognition of his work with the Fredreich’s Ataxia charity.
We wanted to make the gift a surprise, so we pretended to donate the bike to the auction, to explain its presence at the evening dinner.
After the days cycling, with over 400 cyclists taking part, everybody was ready for a drink to celebrate the marvellous £1 million achievement!
The evening was a great success. David Dickson introduced Jamie who made a short speech, where the bike was presented to, and gratefully received by Graham Kennedy.
Oak by Design would like to congratulate the charity on their amazing achievement to support and build awareness for Ataxia and we trust they will, in the near future, find a way to put an end to Ataxia.
