Designs and Options

Made to order and made to measure, these clear oak covers can be used to disguise a variety of situations.

With an improved design, the jointing method allows for an almost invisible join down the length of the oak cover.  This means whether you chose a 2,3 or 4 sided cover, the appearance is that of a solid oak beam.

The oak is all kiln dried to ensure stability and is a substantial 30mm thick.

Not just any oak.
The difference lies in using seasoned, air-dried oak instead of green oak…

Dimensions and Tollerances

As all oak covers are made to order, we are able to create any size cover to suit your project.

Stocks of kiln-dried oak vary and therefore should any length exceed 4000mm, or a width exceeds 250mm, this is sometimes a need to join two pieces of oak together.  We always try to match the colour and grain to eliminate any unnecessary differences.

Should you be cladding an RSJ, we recommend adding a small tolerance of 10mm to both the width and depth of the RSJ concerned.  This means fitting the oak cover is made easier when lifting into place.

Oak Beams

The appearance of your oak RSJ cover is determined by its shape and colour.

The colour is determined by applying either a coloured wax or coloured oil.

A coloured wax will provide a sheen appearance and is available in a natural, antique, traditional, farmhouse or jacobean colour.

A coloured oil will provide a matt appearance and is available in a clear/natural or golden colour.

When considering the shape of your oak cover, we normally dress the visible edges.  This edge can be left with a square appearance to show a contemporary finish or we can misshape the edge giving a more traditional and aged appearance.
