Designs and Options

Oak framed buildings are a conversation starter, a focal point and wow factor.

We categorise our oak framed buildings into four keys areas.

Orangeries

This is an oak frame which has a flat roof and exposed lantern.  The roof has an inner and outer ring beam of oak to support the rafters above.

Garden Rooms

We class a garden room as an oak framed build that as additional full-length walls to tie against.  The roof is normally pitched or vaulted with either a painted or oak-beamed ceiling.

Conservatories

These buildings tend to be fully glazed on three or more sides.  Sometimes the glazing runs the full height of the building, sometimes it is sat on a dwarf wall.

Atriums

An atrium can best be described as a flat single or double height oak frame.  This is usually found on a gable end of as an entrance to a building.

Not just any oak.
The difference lies in using seasoned, air-dried oak instead of green oak…

Dimensions & Proportions

Aesthetically, oak framed buildings need to look proportional and in keeping with their surroundings.

Glazing

The all-important part of oak framed buildings is how you can incorporate glazing units into the design.

As standard, we supply toughened, argon filled and coated double glazed units.  The design of any glazed building should have proportionally scaled units.

Too large and the unit can become heavy and need a thicker glass panel.  Too small and the amount of oak can be overpowering.

Door Options

Doors options fall into three main categories.

Single

A simple signal door to the property, normally fully glazed and set within its own oak frame.  All our oak doors are pre-finished, pre-hung and come ready to install.

Patio or French Doors

The same as a single door but provided as a pair.  All doors tend to open into the garden and every one is supplied with 3D adjustable hinges and a multipoint locking mechanism.

Bi-Folds

A minimum of 3 bi-folding doors creates a larger opening to one or more sides of your building.  Multiple configurations including the addition of how a single incorporate personnel door for easy access.

Workmanship

Oak framed buildings deserve to be built with care and an understanding of how the oak is to be interpreted.

Choice of Finishes

The finishing touches include the finish of your oak frame and what is to be expected over time.

Clear 429

A white pigmented oil that when dry, allows the natural colour and grain of the oak to show through.

Golden 420

A more traditional coloured oil still providing protection from the weather whilst creating a warmer appearance.
