Helping Out @ DIY SOS!
Helping On DIY SOS!
Ben Knowles, one of our fabulous installation team was recently seen on the BBC’s DIY SOS in Hessle near Hull.
He worked on the property, that featured in this particular episode for approx 9 days, transforming the home of a deserving family.
He mainly worked on fitting the wall panelling, fitting custom made shelves and fitting Oak By Design’s oak shelves to the kitchen.
He had initially seen an advert on social media and contacted the Production team who in turn contacted Ben when the start days had been confirmed. The work was done in April 2018, but the programme didn’t air until April 2019.
When another call out came through earlier this year, Ben was keen to help out again. He thoroughly enjoyed working on the home of the family and ensuring that something positive happened for them.
He did admit to putting a bit of weight on (even though he was supposed to be watching his weight), whilst working on the project though! Not surprising considering that they were supplied with 3 hot meals a day and that local people dropped off home baking and a local supermarket had donated doughnuts and other goodies, filling the tea tent!!!
He didn’t mind though – it was for a great cause!
So, for the second time, he has been working on another transforming build, this time in Scunthorpe. This will, again, be aired at a later date.
The main trades who work on all the shows are known as Purple Shirts and Ben said they were great. He had a great time working with the volunteers and the DIYSOS team.
Apparently, it was so good, ‘It was better than work!’
