Dean contacted Oak by Design in February 2017 with regards to having an oak porch made for his Grade 2 listed, end terraced property in Cumbria.
Dean and his wife Julie needed a porch so they had a dry/sheltered area outside their home. This would be where they could take their boots off after a muddy dog walk and dry the dog. Hopefully, this would keep the house clean. It also needed to look attractive and blend with their property.
Dean had sent Oak by Design a sketch of the type of porch he required together with all the relevant measurements. Inspiration was taken after seeing their designs on the website. After discussing his ideas, a quotation was sent out.
He was happy with all the information supplied. When applying for Planning Permission, detailed drawings were supplied by Oak by Design of the proposed porch. These were sent to the planning officer, along with materials for approval.
The planning process was, in Dean’s words, ‘quite extensive’ due to the listed status of their beautiful 1648 property, and it being in a conservation area.
Finally, the planning permission was given in July and the final details of the porch were ironed out and then the porch went into production. Dean and his builder finalised the building of the dwarf wall, which the porch was to sit on, and the stone flagging whilst the porch was being built.
The porch was delivered in September and Dean with his builder wasted no time in installing the structure.
Speaking to Dean a month or so later he said: “The porch has transformed the front of the house with a practical element and made a real feature that is a pleasure to look at and is also in keeping with the character of an old house. The lovely comments we have received from people passing by having been most welcome!”
“Oak by Design was nothing but helpful at every stage,
from pricing to design and helping with every little
thing along the way, including advice on fitting.”
“For anyone wishing to do a similar project, I would highly recommend Oak by Design. Nothing was too much trouble and as our house is old and quirky, fitting was not straightforward. The team at Oak by Design were only a phone call away to help and solved some of the issues before they became one. From order to delivery it was nothing but first class.”
