Engineered Oak Flooring and More!
Local businessman Mr Buckley was renovating his stone built country house on the outskirts of Wetherby when his interior designer contacted Oak by Design. They wanted to provide characterful engineered oak flooring for a number of the downstairs rooms that needed updating.
After she had supplied her client with samples of various options, they decided on their Engineered Oak Flooring from the Kolonial range. This is a fabulously textured flooring, brushed to highlight and lift the grain. ‘Smoked Natural’ was the colour they chose – a warm, natural characterful colour which looks as though it has aged over time. Mixed widths of 155mm, 175mm and 225mm were used to add variety throughout.
Whilst visiting the Oak by Design showroom, Jenny asked if they could update the existing old pine staircase. A site visit was made and a few weeks later the installations team were on site. They covered the newels, replaced the spindles and strings to bring the staircase up to date whilst maintaining the property’s character and age.
A Tricky Ask
Whilst the team were on site, they were then asked if they could add character to an existing softwood truss. Mr Buckley ideally wanted a characterful truss and it to be in oak.
As the truss was structural, the fitters ‘covered’ the pine timbers with kiln-dried oak covers. These had been aged by brushing, flaming and adding knocks and dents for the character. Each individual part was covered on all 4 sides and finished with small proud pegs to the relevant parts of the truss. This provided a traditional look.
After the engineered oak flooring was fit, oak steps were then manufactured and installed, which led from the kitchen to the snug. These were also found from the hallway to the kitchen.
A fabulous oak fireplace beam was also provided towards the end of the renovation. It was installed in time for the Christmas stockings to be hung up. Ready for a visit from the man himself!
