Pine Staircase Transformation

With a little imagination and thought, its amazing how the introduction of an oak staircase and oak doors can transform a home.

This private residence, situated in North Yorkshire, is proof that oak can definitely create the ‘wow’ factor.  The clients moved into this stone barn conversion and wanted to change the 1970s decor and to mix the original oak beams with a clean lined oak staircase to create a more contemporary look.

The original staircase was pine and had a quarter landing leading to an upstairs corridor with a pitched roof.  It was decided to replicate the bottom half of the staircase in solid oak and to change the spindles and newel posts on the upper half.

The new oak staircase was manufactured after taking precise dimensions and manufactured in our workshop taking care to replicate the double bullnose steps.

The oak staircase is now the focal point when you enter through the front door.

The overall appearance was enhanced by adding made to measure, matching oak doors and frames. The addition of oak skirting board complemented the look.

The oak doors are a double sided door incorporating identical oak boarding on both sides. The doors are 50mm thick and so made to measure frames were manufactured to accommodate the doors. Hung on 4 inch stainless steel, ballbearing hinges, the doors have a reassuring solid feel about them.

As the barn had been extended over time, the thickness of the walls varied and so the door frames were manufactured to width and labelled accordingly.

The pictures below show the dramatic change that has been achieved by adding an oak staircase and oak doors.
