Engineered Oak Flooring
When Alison Flint was extensively renovating her beautiful Edwardian home in Harrogate, she came to Oak By Design looking for herringbone, engineered oak flooring to fit over the underfloor heating she had just had installed on the ground floor of her property.
When we said we were able to do this in the required herringbone pattern she was thrilled, as she had struggled to find what she wanted anywhere else.
After taking a large sample panel home for a few days, and looking at that in the various rooms, at various times of the day, she chose ‘Smoked Tobacco’, a lovely rich colour which was well suited to the period property.
She used this in the Cinema Room, Sitting Room, Dining Room and Hallway of the ground floor, providing a clean, fluid finish throughout.
Around the edges of the rooms a double border of 175mm straight boards were laid to form a crisp edge. The engineered oak flooring went into the bay windows and up against the fabulous period panelling in the rooms providing a very cohesive look. Provisions for electrical sockets within the flooring were also made.
We then made 3 matching oak steps and nosing from the hallway to the kitchen. To create the same colour as the flooring we fumed the oak at our Tockwith workshop and finished this with a Tobacco stain. Again, a uniform finish throughout.
Each stave (piece of wood) used on this particular floor is 700mm long and 175mm wide. They are also available in lengths of 525mm. The boards are pre-finished, ensuring a quicker fitting time than unfinished boards. However, laying a herringbone engineered oak flooring is no mean feat! The finish used is Osmo Polyx Oil which provides a natural, hardwearing finish.
This “Exclusive Herringbone Engineered Oak Flooring” is also available in different colours and textures.
