Oak Porch (Extension)
We were approached by our client wanting to add something extra to her beautiful home. It was short of one thing – a porch – this would provide protection from the elements and character to her home.
Seeking inspiration from property and home magazines and after looking at standard designs which didn’t match her style of house, she decided she needed a bespoke glazed oak porch. Her sister recommended Oak by Design as she had just had an open porch installed on her property nearby.
After a site visit and various discussions later, we created detailed working drawings for our client to approve. Several areas needed careful consideration, for example, drainage, guttering, electrics and internal flooring. When all the details were confirmed an ordered was placed for the large oak porch on a supply and fit basis. The deciding factor was Oak by Design’s professionalism and assurance that the job would be done to a high standard.
A dwarf wall was built on the outside of her stunning barn conversion in a small hamlet on the outskirts of Sunderland to accommodate the porch.
The oak porch was made up of:
An oak frame to 3 sides
A double-sided, solid oak external door
6 double glazed units
A lovely gable end truss glazed with four units between the uprights
Internal oak shelves
The roof was then finished with slates and the electrics for the lighting were ‘hidden’. These were disguised between oak boards between the common rafters in the ceiling.
We had one set back. The dedicated fitter wasn’t able to finish the fitting within the timescale due to family problems. However, as soon as other members of our team were able, they completed the porch to the standard and quality we promised.
The porch looks splendid and is providing cover from the elements! What was our clients’ response to the finished product?
‘We are very satisfied. Oak by Design completed the work to the standard and quality we expected’
