Engineered Oak Flooring
When Rebecca Taylor told her friend Alison Flint she wanted new engineered oak flooring for her Victorian home in Harrogate, Alison recommended Oak by Design. She had just had her flooring fit in a similar style of property and was really pleased with it. Alison had chosen a herringbone pattern, but Rebecca wanted long planks.
A site visit to Rebecca and her husband at their beautiful family home allowed us to discuss a number of options including colour, width and depth of board. They chose a board called ‘Tobacco’ from our Chateau Range – a smooth, sanded finish. The board chosen was 225mm wide and together with the long lengths of the boards (between 2.2m and 2.4m) this suited the good proportions of the sitting room where it was to be fit.
All our engineered oak flooring is made to order and so we returned 5 weeks later to fit the floor. The 20mm thick board was glued to the existing floor. Gluing the floor down ensures the floor feels strong and solid under foot.
An elegant painted skirting board was then fit. This tied in beautifully with the existing elegant architrave and fabulous painted fitted book case.
A very pleased Rebecca said afterwards, ‘We are thrilled with the floor. It looks lovely and has been fitted really well. We had one small snag and Richard came out immediately to address this. We have had a very positive experience’.
